The dartboard

52 businesses. One dartboard. No do-overs.

Every week, one small business is drawn at random from a frozen list of 52 trades — by a public process anyone can recompute — and gets a working system built for it in the open, then handed over. It is a gift of opportunity, never a takedown of deficiency. The board below fills in one tile at a time, one episode at a time, until all 52 are scratched.

The commitment

The list of 52 below is frozen. This SHA-256 hash fingerprints it exactly — together with a public randomness beacon pulse, announced on camera before each draw, it makes every draw recomputable by anyone: same list, same pulse, same result.

How the draw works

One pulse, one hash, no discretion.

  1. A public randomness beacon pulse is announced on camera at the close of each episode — a value nobody controls and everybody can look up.
  2. That pulse is hashed together with the frozen list’s SHA-256 hash above, so the input to every draw is fixed and public.
  3. The result indexes into the industries not yet drawn — the unscratched tiles only, so no trade comes up twice.
  4. The listing snapshot for that draw is frozen at that moment (archived URL + hash) and posted here, so the candidate set can never be edited after the fact.
  5. The top eligible business in that frozen snapshot is the draw.

Dead-draw rule: if no eligible business exists — the industry is effectively invisible online — the draw takes the next business in the same frozen snapshot; if the snapshot holds none, the next pulse redraws. No re-rolls, no discretion.

Policies

Owner-first, on the record.

Takedown

Honor on request, fast. An owner-verified ask takes it down within 48 hours, no argument: the YouTube video goes private, the /work page is pulled, the clips are deleted. The tile stays scratched with “removed at owner’s request” — the 52-chain and the draw proofs stay intact.

Courtesy ping

Every featured business is pinged before publish. The teardown works from public information only, so publish proceeds regardless — and anything shown to be factually wrong is pulled. Receipts post here.
